Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As Volunteer Varsity Falcons Falls To Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates

Volunteer Varsity Falcons fell to Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates 8-7 on Thursday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run.
Volunteer Varsity Falcons lost despite out-hitting Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates nine to five. Greyson Dennis led Volunteer Varsity Falcons with two hits.
Volunteer Varsity Falcons got on the board in the top of the first inning after Greyson Dennis walked, Isaiah Ward singled to center field, and Carson Williams walked, each scoring one run.
Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on one hit to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Greyson Dennis singled down the right field line, which helped Volunteer Varsity Falcons tie the game at six in the top of the sixth.
A double by Bryson Clay gave Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the sixth.
Cade Smith laid down a sacrifice bunt, which helped Volunteer Varsity Falcons tie the game at seven in the top of the seventh.
Nolan Harville earned the win for Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates. The righty allowed one hit and one run over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Gavin Hickernell led things off on the mound for Volunteer Varsity Falcons. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out six and walking one.
Volunteer Varsity Falcons accumulated nine hits in the game. Greyson Dennis and Carson Williams each drove in two runs for Volunteer Varsity Falcons. Carson Williams paced Volunteer Varsity Falcons with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.
Bryson Clay, David Bailey, Ayden Davis, and Brody Clay each drove in one run for Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates. Bryson Coffman led Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates with two hits in three at bats. Landry Coffey led Washburn Varsity Washburn Pirates with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
Volunteer Varsity Falcons play at home on Friday against Dobyns-Bennett in their next game.

Falcon's Soccer drops a heartbreaker to Providence 0-1. Working a clean sheet, the Falcons gave up the only goal of the game in the 88th minute of their 90 minute match.
Volunteer falls to 1-1 on the early season but showed a lot of promise for this season in going toe to toe with the Knights.

"Great win at Cumberland Gap tonight. Good guys 3. Gap 1. Gave up a goal in the last couple minutes erasing the clean sheet. Camden Lukens with 2 goals. Conner Williams with 1 goal. Danny Miller with the assist on the Williams goal. Ossie Franklin with 9 saves in goal."

Summer Learning Camp will take place for four weeks, four days a week, between May 26 - June 18 from 7:30-2:30 p.m.
