St. Clair Elementary School Counseling Program

Everyone is welcome here

The purpose of the School Counseling Program is to help students be successful in their education and in life by addressing their personal, social, academic, college and career needs. The School Counseling Program is for every student at St. Clair and is a collaborative effort of the school counselor, teachers, parents, administrators, and students. The School Counseling Program is based on the needs of the students as well as state standards.

Ms. Barker with students

Thank you for visiting the school counseling webpage. My name is Amanda Barker and I have been the school counselor at St. Clair since 2010. I love my job! I also enjoy spending time outside, reading, caring for houseplants and riding my bike. I live in Mt. Carmel with my husband and our dog, Riley.

I earned a B.S. in Human Services (2008) and a M.A. in School Counseling (2010) both from E.T.S.U. I am a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and the Tennessee School Counselor Association (TSCA).

As the school counselor, I serve every student in whole group lessons and school wide programs. We cover various topics including self regulation, cooperation, goal setting, safety, character education, careers, and more. I may also serve students through individual and small group counseling, based on student needs. In addition, I collaborate with parents and teachers to implement 504 plans, behavior interventions and referrals to additional services.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns for your child or questions about our school counseling program. I can be reached on Rooms messaging and email at amanda.barker@hck12.net. You can also call the school at 423-235-2721 and ask to speak to Mrs. Barker.
