Important Information for parents/guardians:

School Hours 7:55 a.m. – 2:55 p.m.

School opens at 7:15 a.m. Students are not allowed in the building until 7:15. Car riders may be dropped off at the front entrance between 7:15 and 7:55. Students will be tardy if they arrive after 7:55 a.m. Any student who arrives after 7:55 a.m. will need to be escorted in the building by a parent/guardian. You must sign your child in and obtain a tardy slip.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very important that your child be on time each day!! We need our students to arrive on time in order to start their day off right.   Breakfast is available from 7:15 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Visitors

The doors will be locked from 8:00 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. You will need to press the button when you come to the front entrance and speak with someone in the office.   Office personnel will be able to view you from a monitoring screen and allow you access into the building. This feature will help us in continuing our goal to keep our students safe. Please do not be offended if we ask for identification. All visitors must report to the main office and sign in. You will be given a visitors pass at this time.   We want our school be a safe environment for our children; therefore, all visitors must wear a visitor’s badge.

Student Dismissal

·         School is dismissed at 2:55 p.m.

·         Parents/guardians are to wait in their cars to pick up their child. Car riders will be picked up in the front of the school. Please remain in your car with your child’s card displayed. The car duty teachers will call for your child over the walkie talkie.

·         Please do not pull forward until given the signal to move.

·         CHILDREN WILL NOT BE CALLED FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE A CARD DISPLAYED. We do this for safety reasons. If you lose your card or need extras, we will be glad to assist you. If someone else is picking up your child or you don’t have your card, you will need to park and walk in to sign your child out. We must have the name of the person listed on the emergency card in order to sign a student out of school.

·         PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP YOUR CHILDEARLY UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!! This time does accumulate and will count as time missed. IF YOU WANT TO COME TO SCHOOL EARLIER TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD YOU WILL NEED TO PARK IN A DESIGNATED PARKING SPACE. Also, our teachers are teaching right up to the very last minute, and we don’t want your child to miss anything! We have these procedures in place in order to keep your children safe. So be patient, and we promise the process will speed up after a couple of weeks.

Transportation Changes

All transportation changes must be sent in writing to the school. We must be given specific information so that we can pass this onto the bus drivers. Please make sure your student is aware of changes in transportation ahead of time. If an emergency arises and you need to make a change in transportation, you will need to do so before 2:00 p.m. Our phone lines are frequently tied up in the afternoons, so please be sure to make every effort to take care of changes before this time.   We will be unable to make transportation changes after 2:00 p.m. unless it is an emergency situation.

Lunch

Parents are always welcome to eat lunch with their child! We have delicious, healthy meals prepared each day, so come join us anytime. Please be sure to sign in at the office and pick up a visitor’s badge. Only adults listed on the emergency card will be allowed to have lunch with your child, unless previously arranged by parent/guardian through the office. If you sign in to eat lunch then the cafeteria is the only place you should be in the building. If you need to go elsewhere in the building, please go back to the office and let them know of your location.

Custody

Students requiring special custody orders will need to have all required documentation on file in the office. Any changes in custody orders must be updated with proper documentation.

Emergency Cards

Please keep your child’s emergency card up to date at all times. Children frequently get sick at school, and we must be able to contact someone in case of an emergency. We need phone numbers to be updated anytime you change numbers! This is VERY IMPORTANT!

School Wide Positive Behavior Support

SWPBS focuses on prevention and teaching appropriate student behavior in order to provide a predictable, safe, positive and consistent environment. Teachers use this system as part of their classroom management plan. Each teacher will supply you with their classroom discipline plan. If you have a question concerning your child’s behavior, please call the teacher and discuss this with them. Good communication between the parent and teacher is an essential part of your child’s education. Teachers need the support of the parents to follow up if a child’s behavior becomes a problem. Major discipline problems will be referred to the principal. Please see the Hawkins County Schools Elementary Handbook for more information on the discipline policy.

Student Directory Information Denial Form

This form is located in the back of the student handbook. If you DO NOT wish your child’s name/picture to be printed in the school yearbook, in material printed by the school, or pictures on our website, return this form to your child’s teacher.
